Let's talk toddler beds!

Lately I've been thinking about toddler beds. To be honest, until recently, I didn't see much need for a separate toddler bed. After all, so many cribs convert to cute toddler beds and we never had any issue moving Alex into a full size bed, though I'm sure it helped that he was always sleeping in OURS! A few weeks ago, Olivia started to get her knee painfully caught in her crib, and it's a real safety issue in my mind. This has sped up my plans to get her out of her crib and into a bed. However, her nursery is so small and awkwardly shaped that I can't fit a twin size bed in it without covering up the air register. So began the quest for a toddler bed that was both functional and aesthetically pleasing. I narrowed the search down to three choices.
  1. The Good Manor toddler bed, from Land of Nod
  2. The Caravan Divan, from Kalon Studios
  3. The Classic toddler bed, from Oeuf NYC

Good Manor toddler bedLand of Nod Materials: Ash veneer, with low emission engineered wood. Solid poplar legs and slats.  Made in Vietnam Price: $449 The moment I saw the Good Manor toddler bed, from Land of Nod, I knew it was a contender. Everything about it is just darling, for lack of a better word. The scale of it, so cute and feminine, without being frilly or fussy. Just a sweet little modern reinvention of a wingback style headboard. I love the little details, like the little brass feet below. She's a restless sleeper and enjoys pressing herself against the crib at night. I hope placing a pillow or sheepskin next to her bed to cushion her fall will help with the adjustment. 2. Caravan DivanKalon Studios Materials: 100% Solid FSC Certified American Maple. Made in the USA Price: $695 (unpainted) $845 (painted) Kalon Studios builds handmade, sustainable and non-toxic wooden furnishings in California. Their Caravan Divan makes such a stylish statement and it has the added benefit of being eco-friendly, handmade in the USA, and sustainable. It's a very designer piece, as shown in the bedrooms below. Were I to opt for this bed, I would rotate it so that the open side sat against the wall, allowing the backrest to act as a rail.   3. Classic Toddler Bed, Oeuf NYC Materials: Solid birch and Eco-MDF. Finishes are water based, non-toxic and VOC-free. Made in Europe (country not specified) in FSC certified factory. Price: $670 [caption id="attachment_1490" align="alignnone" width="736"]Marissa Source: Sissy + Marley; Photographer: Marco Ricca[/caption] How beautiful is Avery and Sebastien's room above? The Classic Toddler bed from Oeuf NYC truly is a classic. I feel its popularity is well deserved. I like that it offers the security of the toddler rails, yet still enables the child the freedom to climb up and down on their own. Extra points also for the option of purchasing crib rails to transform back to a crib (should you find yourself in need of a crib again). I love all three for different reasons. I'll let you know soon which one we chose. In my next post, I will cover some of the other furniture choices and hopefully have a mood board put together for Olivia's big girl room. Until then xx Katerina.
