Hello there

and thank you to those of you who keep checking in to see if this blog is still alive. I think I'm actually going out of my mind at the moment. This is the longest I have ever gone without a computer. Now that I think of it, i've had a laptop since I was 18, so that's 16 straight years, if you're curious ;-)
I've tried, on more than one occasion, to submit a food post from this tablet but it won't attach images, for whatever reason, and so I never got beyond the draft stage. my apologies for the typos that are sure to follow.

what have I been up to? Mostly ordering lots of stuff off of the internet! Found a great new tea site, David's Tea, so naturally had to order a new teapot and modern little teacups here and here. And the teapot was on sale for $17! I was very impressed with both the quality of the items and the speed of shipping. They were also packed very well.

Also, trying out some wheat, soy and dairy free recipes. Tried the "life changing bread," which was actually a pleasant surprise. One of the hardest parts of my forced diet change has been breakfast time. I'm a Carb-loving, chocolate addicted girl, unfortunately. If I could get away with consuming chocolate croissants and cappuccinos for the rest of eternity, I would (and did just that for four glorious months in Italy!) Though I would not term this bread as delicious, it's a nice alternative to eggs, or oatmeal (or almonds on the dreaded days I haven't been grocery shopping for a while). I thought it tasted great with cashew butter and honey, also with melt and maple syrup. And I think with poached eggs and a drizzle of olive oil, for a more savoury version.

I've just received Danielle Walker's book "Against All Grain," and I'm very much looking forward to making her grain-free sandwich bread, though I can't for the life of me figure out how one makes a convincing bread out of eggs and cashew butter. I'm also curious about the calorie count and cost per slice. I don't know if you've noticed but the calories in cashew butter are frightening and I just paid $18 for a jar of the stuff (but it's oh-so-fabulous). I think I may purchase some raw cashews and make my own butter for this recipe. Check out Danielle's site for more great recipes, if you haven't. Her book is the number one selling Paleo book on Amazon, and it's number 2 in health books.

Another site recommended by a friend, who's also an amazing chef, so I trust her opinion, is Elana's Pantry. Lots of recipe experimentation to do. Hope to be able to write about it soon.

xxx Katerina
